Description
Overview
The SSR-1 D4840 is a single-phase panel-mount solid state relay (SSR) rated at 40A, switching a 24-480VAC load from a 3-32VDC control signal. With no moving parts, it switches silently and does not wear out like a mechanical relay – ideal for the frequent switching that heater and temperature-control circuits demand.
In wide-format printing, this type of SSR is commonly used in dryer and heater assemblies, preheater plates, laminating machines and temperature control boxes – anywhere a controller or thermostat drives a resistive heating load.
Note: at full rated current a heatsink is required. Mount the relay on a suitable aluminium heatsink with thermal paste and ensure free airflow around the fins.

FAQ
What control signal does the SSR-1 D4840 need?
Any DC signal between 3V and 32V – typically the output of a temperature controller, thermostat or PLC. The input is polarity-sensitive: connect positive to the input marked “+” and negative to “-“.
Do I need a heatsink?
Yes for continuous or high-current loads. At rated current the relay dissipates significant heat and must be mounted on a properly sized aluminium heatsink with thermal paste. Undersized cooling is the most common cause of SSR failure.
Can it switch my heater load?
It switches single-phase AC loads from 24V up to 480V at up to 40A. For resistive heater loads it is generally recommended to keep the continuous current below about 60% of the rating for long service life.
Why use a solid state relay instead of a mechanical relay?
An SSR has no moving contacts, so it does not arc or wear out under frequent switching, works silently, and is far more reliable in heater circuits that switch many times per hour.
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes. We ship by DHL, FedEx, UPS and TNT, typically 2-7 working days worldwide.
